Analyzing the shifting mobile media landscape

The mobile media landscape is shifting rapidly. According to Mary Meeker, a Morgan Stanley analyst the mobile web will overtake the fixed Internet by 2015. The mobile usage is ramping up at a quicker velocity than the desktop version ever did.  It seems like the rise of both mobile and social media are pushing each other higher. Comparing to a year ago now 98% more people use a smartphone to update friends about on their whereabouts.

Specifically young people (between 18-29) are engaged to use non-voice data applications on their mobile devices. The average mobile media user is 32 and 46% are female. Android and Iphone users spent about 80 minutes using apps and download 9 new apps per month on average.

All these insights are plotting out how quickly mobile media is gaining ground. I venture to say that, in 5 to 10 years, there are people who no longer have a desktop or laptop. In future, I expect, all web-based applications will run on mobile phones. What I find interesting to see how young people cope with this, this group, known as digital natives lead the way in the use of mobile data applications.
